A healthy and radiant skin is one of the most sought after things, perhaps by all women!! If you have it, you cannot hide it – but yes, you need to maintain it.
The key to a glowing skin is right there within your arm’s range. One can attain a healthy supple skin though a three-tier approach involving diet, exercise and proper cosmetics.
Here is a step-by-step guide to skin care -
1) Water – drink two to three litres of water daily to detoxify.
2) Have a rich diet full of vegetables, fruits. Increase the fibre content in your daily diet. Avoid excess refined sugar, sweets as it damages collagen in skin and makes it lose its elasticity.
3) Invigorate your sluggish lifestyle. Come on, get moving!! Go to the gym or just stretch.
4) Restrict intake of alcohol and caffeine.
5) Keep stress at bay.
6) Go for a daily skin care regime- i.e. cleanse, tone and moisturize.
7) Apply a moisturizer to hydrate your skin externally. A homemade moisturizer is a mixture of cucumber, juice and buttermilk.
Go for an exfoliation once a fortnight either at a professional salon, or at home. It helps remove dead cells and revitalize the skin through blood circulation. Oatmeal combined with mashed apple is an excellent home scrub
9) Do not forget to apply sunscreen with a SPF of minimum 15 at least 10 minutes before going out of house. If you get a suntan, relieve yourself with a mixture of curd and cucumber juice.
10) Use cosmetics depending on your skin type. Learn about your skin type first and then try commercial products.
Skin care is not as difficult as it looks to be.
Thus, the ABC of a beautiful and radiant skin – balanced diet, hydration, cleansing and protecting it from sun and wind should be a part of your daily skin care regimen.
Some popular herbal remedies for skin care –
Water – Drink a minimum of 8-10 glasses of water daily to detoxify the body. It naturally hydrates the skin and gives that young vibrant look.
Turmeric: This is the basic grandma’s remedy – just apply fresh turmeric paste along with curd and gram flour on to your face. Your complexion clears up within a few days, as turmeric is very good for skin health.
Tea extracts: It is a natural antiseptic and is useful for skin acne.
Neem, tulsi: Drop some neem leaves into your bathtub, and you will feel the difference in your skin within a few days. If you have any external skin rash, infection, just apply a paste of neem or basil leaves to heal up, as they have excellent anti-bacterial properties, clear up pimples and acne; and keep the skin naturally invigorated.
Sandalwood paste: It soothes the skin, cools it and moisturizes it naturally.
Different skin types and their care –
1. Dry skin -
To avoid any sort of skin problem, one should drink at least eight to ten glasses of water a day to keep dry skin well hydrated. Along with it, eat a high quality healthy diet rich in fresh fruits, nuts and vegetables; get some exercise and the secret 8-hour sleep daily to get a healthy skin.
Home remedies for dry skin:
• Do not expose yourself to sun too much, as well as to too much air conditioning.
• Reduce how often you wash your face to maximum two times a day, and if possible use slightly tepid water.
• Avoid caffeine and alcohol as they cause dehydration. Also do not smoke, as smoking deprives the skin of oxygen and nutrients making it dry and flaky.
• Avoid using a commercial highly perfumed soap. Instead, use non-detergent, neutral-pH products to cleanse your skin.
• Massage your face every night before sleeping with a good hydrating moisturizer, and be generous in the areas surrounding the eyes.
• For cracked skin on fingers and feet, use a cream rich in vitamin E and aloe vera. Massage in well.
2. Oily skin -
Oily skin is the least vulnerable, and it ages least of all. The best thing to do is to take measures to keep the skin pores from being clogged and forming acne.
- Follow strictly the experts’ advice – clean your face two to three times daily with a good medicated soap, one, which works well with your skin.
- It is best to use water based non-comedogenic product that effortlessly and effectively dissolves sebum.
- Use an oil free moisturizer to maintain a shine free complexion. It will also help if you use tepid water to clean face as it loosens the dirt easily.
- Before applying make-up, use an antiseptic day cream which contains benzyl peroxide as it reduces sebaceous secretions.
Home remedies for oily skin –
- Cucumber juice works great on oily skin. Before applying make-up, rub it on the excessively oily parts of your face and dry it thoroughly.
- It is very important that you definitely remove all make up before going to bed. Gram flour mixed with curd acts as an effective cleansing milk which cleans open pores.
- Be cautious about your diet if you have an oily skin! Go for a protein rich diet, but restricted in sugar and salt. Take plenty of leafy green vegetables and fresh fruits. Cut down on animal fat, fatty foods, alcohol and junk food.
- It is advised that you reduce consumption of iodized salt.
- Do not miss out on the 8-10 glasses of water daily to keep the skin hydrated and to flush out toxins.
- Exercise is also a must. Exercise works magical on any skin as it boosts circulation, encourages blood flow, and cleans the skin from within.
3. Sensitive skin –
This is a very unpredictable skin type, and one needs to be extra cautious while dealing with it. Almost anything and everything can react to it.
- It is always advised to use the simplest and purest products- colour free, alcohol free, fragrance free and preservatives – a complete no-no.
- If using any new cosmetic, it is very important that you patch test it on your skin three to four times initially. The best parts are small areas like behind your ear or on hands. Go for it only if there is no skin reaction.
- Limit exposure to sun. While going out it is important to use a sun block because sensitive skin can easily get discoloured or age spots may appear. Use a sunscreen with only physical ingredients such as zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, which deflects the UV rays rather than absorb them.
- Try to use only natural or homemade products – they are best. Fresh and natural!!
- If you have sensitive skin, keep skin clean always. Wash your face maximum twice a day with a natural pH balanced cleanser.
- If going to a party, use only those cosmetics, which are hypo-allergenic and non-comedogenic.
- Always use cosmetics that do not contain many ingredients. The more the number of ingredients, the more the probability of it causing a reaction.
- Do not forget to drink plenty of water to detox for making your skin glow.
- Eat a well balanced diet that includes fresh fruits, green vegetables and nuts.
- Daily exercise to get that radiant glow from inside
- While washing face, avoid steam or very hot water. Hot baths and steams lead to broken capillaries.

To look beautiful and young is a hidden desire of every woman. Body and beauty care is a critical issue because it boosts self-confidence, enhances personality and promotes prospects in life. Natural beauty is a gift but has been showered only on a very few. For most of us the art of makeup is neccesary to hide our flaws and blemishes. It adds to highlighting beauty spots and good features.
However, we should remember that a beautiful face is possible only when a woman takes care of her health. Women’s health including a proper diet, exercise, and managing stress is responsible for beautiful skin. Face is the index of mind and beauty too is more than skin deep. A healthy individual who follows a proper diet, manages stress and is critical about skin cleansing habits is bound to have a glowing complexion. The result is a wonderful skin, which defies age and the pressures of a hectic lifestyle.
A very common skin problem among women is that of Acne and Pimples. Acne is basically a skin disease typical to youth. Acne produces unsightly spots on the face, neck, chest, back and upper arms. The skin gets blotchy and these blotches on the face do never vanish. Even a beautiful face and the skin, if affected by acne, loses its charm. Although traditionally a teenage problem, acne can affect people even in their forties.
It is believed that improper diet aggravates the problem. Hence for years, chocolates, spices and fatty foods were considered a taboo for acne patients. Recent studies, however, have scientifically exploded this myth. So, dietary restrictions are no longer necessary to combat the onslaught of acne scars. Other factors that affect acne are menstruation, stressful conditions, hot humid climates and genetic factors.
It is better not to neglect pimples. Be alert as soon as they start appearing. Use of sulphur soap is effective in getting rid of this skin problem. Cleaning of day’s make-up at night, before going to bed, is very important because make-up particles block the pores and prevent them from breathing freely. Steaming once a week keeps the pores open.
Though it is a matter of common knowledge that pimples appear during the transitional years of adolescence and youth due to over-activity of glands, their appearance should not be taken lightly because these may leave their permanent marks on your face, showing your carelessness and damaging your looks.

The treatment of wrinkles has become a multi-million or perhaps billion dollar industry, as people attempt to stave off the effects of aging. Some of the most common treatments for wrinkles involve lotions and oils, injections, surgery and laser resurfacing.
For those who are only a little committed to treating their wrinkles, there are a plethora of over-the-counter anti-wrinkle creams from almost every beauty care products supplier. These treatments usually require daily or sometimes twice daily application of creams and lotions to the face to prevent the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Some include a gentle depilatory agent, stripping off the top layer of skin to reach the healthier skin below. Most also include strong moisturizers as dry skin can emphasize the appearance of wrinkles. Some even argue that the moisture in their creams and lotions help plump the skin cells to help them fill in the lines and wrinkles.
Of these creams, one of the newest and best to hit the market is a Vitamin C lotion. Beginning in health spas around the world and then leaking out to the general populace, Vitamin C as a skin treatment has been quickly gaining in popularity. At first, the lotion was applied by spas after facials to maintain the soft, clean skin brought out by the facial. Then it was noted that Vitamin C effectively treated wrinkles as well. The treatment is said to enhance skin’s natural healing ability and improve the look of fine lines and wrinkles.
Another way some women are combating wrinkles is through the use of botox and collagen injections. Collagen is used to plump up an area and remove wrinkles by restoring a youthful look to the area treated. Botox treatment for wrinkles involves a form of botulism being injected to a particular area, often the forehead and area near the eyes, to paralyze the muscles that cause wrinkles there. The treatment lasts four to six months and generally only appears irritated and red for the first day after the treatment. Wrinkles are minimized because the facial muscles used for furrowing the brow and other wrinkle-causing movements are effectively frozen by the botox.
Another recent development in the war on wrinkles is laser-skin resurfacing. Like chemical peels and facials designed to remove the top layer of skin, laser-skin resurfacing is designed to remove layers of skin and improve the look of the skin by revealing the healthier, tighter skin beneath the surface.
Finally, some people still resort to the more traditional method of fighting wrinkles, plastic surgery. With surgery skin can literally be pulled tighter in an effort to get rid of wrinkles. The most common kinds of wrinkle treatment via plastic surgery are brow lifts which remove excess skin on the upper eyelid and improve the look of drooping eyelids. The other common form of plastic surgery removes excess skin under the eyes and removes wrinkles that way.
Whichever method people choose, the natural approach is usually preferred by most as the skin refurnishes naturally, leaving no scars and cuts. Great results have been achieved with all anti wrinkle treatments so in the end, it is entirely up to the individuals preferences.

Choosing the right type of skin care medication for you is critical in ensuring long lasting beautiful skin for yourself. Our skin is the first line of defense for our body against any external agents. If your skin is smooth and unblemished, you will feel beautiful and naturally feel good about yourself. However, if you have badly blemished skin, you will tend to feel self conscious and uncomfortable about yourself. Thus, using the right skin care medication is key to achieving flawless skin today.
There are a plethora of skin care medications available in the market today. So how does one know what are good skin care medications and what are not?
There are so many skin care medications these days that it has become difficult to remember the different types of brand names and products. One of the ways to identify which skin care medications are good for you is by looking through the contents on the ingredients list attached on the package. Doing so will let you know which ingredients are used and whether or not you are allergic to any of them.
Functional keratin is one of the most important ingredients of skin care medication. Keratin is a type of insoluble protein that is found in most animals, and forms part of the epidermis, hair, skin and nails. It is obtained mainly through sheep wool and can be used to grow collagen and elastin. Keratin generally halts the skin’s aging process and therefore is a popular choice for many. Thus, if you are looking for a cream to rejuvenate your skin, then look for ingredients like Functional Keratin in products for that effect.

It is known for its beauty and youth enhancing qualities. Wakame has high quantities of calcium, iron and other minerals that are essential in making the skin firm and moist. Wakame also has a substantial quantity of vitamin B complexes that helps to fight aging and other skin related problems.
The third most important constituent to look out for is Coenzyme Q10. This enzyme is present in every cell and is responsible for keeping the cells energized. However, external factors like UV rays can cause depletion of this enzyme and hence, it is important to get this enzyme from other skin care medications.
There are also many creams available which fights a host of skin problems such as Retina creams, which are have extracts of vitamin A.
These creams are effective in removing dead skin cells. Retin A and isotrenenin are creams that can help one manage pimples and unblock pores effectively. Isotrenoin is also used as an oral skin care medication which helps one control over active oil glands. However, there are many potential side effects to this drug, such as liver damage and birth defects. So you have to ensure that you seek professional medical advice before consuming them, and do take more caution when using them on a long term basis.
Skin care medications should only be bought from a doctor and certified pharmacy. Be sure to check the expiry date and the date of manufacture of the medication before using them. Also, try to switch to natural skin care medications if possible when dealing with simpler problems. Thus, choosing the right type of skin care medication for you is necessary if you wish to get good skin today.
